You may have found that money is too tight to indulge
in expensive skin care products. The good news is that you don’t have to ‘make
it rain’ in order to look after your skin. This list of recipes and tips will
leave you with healthy skin, as well as a full wallet.
1.
Mocha Frappuccino Face Mask
Recipe Source This recipe from crunchybetty.com is my absolute favorite natural face
mask to use. The cocoa, dairy products and honey are natural moisturizers and
therefore leave your skin incredibly soft. In addition, the coffee and cocoa
contain high quantities of antioxidants, which is great for anti-aging and
detoxification. As a bonus, you’ll get a neat little caffeine kick after using
the mask. As such, I would advise against using it at night. I won’t make that
mistake again… If you’re a Zoolander fan, add some orange zest for further
deliciousness and hilarity.
2.
Vinegar Foot Soak
Recipe Source If you’re plagued by dry or cracked feet, this could
be the solution (get it?) for you. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which is
gentle on your feet and will soften your heels.
3.
Cucumber Eye Mask
You’ve probably seen people put cucumbers over their
eyelids on TV or in movies, and surprisingly, this actually works! The
vegetable works as an anti-inflammatory and helps to rehydrate your eyes and
the skin around them. Simply apply thin, refrigerated slices to your eyelids
for around fifteen minutes. Voilà!
4.
Sugar Lip Scrub
Is the weather leaving your lips dry and chapped? This
can be fixed easily with a simple and delicious sugar-based lip scrub. Combine
two teaspoons of sugar with three teaspoons of olive or vegetable oil. You can
then customize your scrub with the flavor of your choice. Personally, I add a
drop or two of mint extract and sometimes even add some cocoa power. Mmm,
choc-mint lips! If mint isn’t your thing, you can use whatever you like. Even
honey works! Mix your ingredients together until well combined. Apply to you
lips and rub in gently. Leave it on for a minute or two, and then rinse.
5.
Banana, Honey and Cinnamon Face Mask
Recipe Source Cakes aren’t your only option when it comes to
browning bananas! This recipe from Sincerely, Kinsey is particularly good if
your skin is dry. Both bananas and honey are moisturizers, and the former is
particularly good at soothing irritated skin. As for the cinnamon, it has been
known to open up your pores and fight acne.
6.
Sea Salt Body Scrub
Recipe Source Sea salt makes a great and frugal scrub. Not only does
its coarseness help get rid of dead skin, but it is also an effective detox
agent. As you can see, there are many ways to customize your scrub, so you can
not only feel fantastic, but smell good too. If you like to keep it simple, sea
salt and vegetable oil alone will do the trick.
7. Green
Tea Face Cream
Recipe Source This recipe takes a little more time and effort, but
it will be well worth it. Like coffee, green tea contains an abundance of
antioxidants, which help to repair your skin and fight off aging. In addition,
the almond and coconut oils are highly moisturizing. Lastly, rose hip seed oil
is known to to help regenerate and repair skin.
8.
Makeup Remover
One of the worst things you can do to your skin is
leave your makeup on every night. It will block your pores, as well as dry your
skin out. Fortunately, you don’t need to invest in expensive facial wipes to
remove your makeup. Avocado oil, petroleum jelly, Crisco and vegetable oil will
do the job just as well.
9.
Avocado Face Mask
Recipe Source I know, another face mask. But hey, they’re so healthy
for your skin, and at least this way I’m giving you options! Avocados are
celebrated for their natural healing properties, as well as their delicious
taste. They’re particularly beneficial for those with dry skin because they
hydrating, soothing and work as an anti-inflammatory. As the link will show
you, you can customize these masks and add ingredients of your own choosing.
10.
Lavender Hand Cream
Recipe Source Lavender is highly beneficial medicinally. The
essential oil contained within the herb is found to treat insomnia, depression,
anxiety and is also an anti-inflammatory.
Avocado is a nice fancy addition to any dish or
beverage and leads to a delightful meal, and health and dining aficionados know
this well.
